Watching in October 2022. Good grief... 50 years! Thank you.
Nice, it’s Mister Softee!
It’s really more or less a former fleet member, albeit one that’s not too good at disguising as something else)
He changed the eyes and voice of people
I can tell you Chris Zell still works here.
Such an Inspirational life lived, it wasn't about how long he was here but how he lived it and a beautiful change he made.
I don't know if anyone else realizes this but all three of these great local gentlemen have passed away. All of them were legends in local news. R.I.P. to Bruce, Carl and Rod.
Ernie Davis ,ho saputo oggi la sua storia e' incredibile , come andava combattute le battaglie che la vita ci pone davanti: con coraggio, a testa alta.Lassu' in cielo continuerai giochi.....
Nice :)
I was 8 years old when this flood hit Corning my family lived on river rd which didn’t get flooded where I lived but river rd was blocked off from just from the top of river rd going into Corning and the big flats bridge was buckled real bad! I remember seeing all types of animals flowing down that river I felt snakes between my toes when I rode my bike from my house towards Corning I was terrified because I didn’t know if my mom and dad were alright or when they were coming home my mom took my brother too my grandmothers house in East Corning and my dad worked at the Corning hospital I was with my brother staying at my neighbors house and remember feeling really scared and I wanted my mom and dad there was a large puddle in our front lawn and my daycare was across the street behind a house which got flooded pretty bad my family stayed in Corning area until 1978 when we moved from Corning to Ct once again close to a river but not on the banks like in Corning we had a flood in Ct but was at a smaller scale than the flood of 72 to this day I have a brother and sister who never left that area with the exception of my brother who came back to Ct and went to college in Ct lived in Massachusetts briefly then went back to Corning
❤️ ernie Davis rip
Williams was NBC anchor until 2015 where he was fired over a scandal.
thank you Ernie Davis
Thank you gentlemen. Memories of the flood are still fresh in some of the people who were there. I was only 12 going on 13 at the time. I still remember it as if it was yesterday.
So sad. So young.
As a black woman, I will never forget the harsh treatment of this young man.....I Salute him for his courage to stand apart from a hateful system that he didn't create......The Hate still goes on to this day, May Mr. Davis rest well in the Arms of The Most High Yahuaw for Mr. Davis left not knowing he was a Hebrew one of the children from the tribe of Judah......
so sad for him to die so young but so wonderful that he will be forever remebered and will forever inspire x heartbreaking ❤
Thanks, gentlemen. It was great to listen to the men I grew up listening to every night recount this experience. I was only 6 months old when the flood occurred but I heard about it my entire life.
One of the great"what if's" in football history!!! Damn shame!!!
I have just received word that Rod has passed away. I will miss him him dearly. He was a caring individual and a mentor to me when I was going through some pretty rough times. Rest in peace my friend.
Grew up listening to his broadcasts, RIP.
Rest in peace Mr Flaherty.
I can't believe so much time has shot by so fast. So good to see it was real, not just a nice dream. Big Flats was a great place to grow up in the 60s and 70s. Thanks for putting this together! I loved chan 18 and saturday monster movie matinee on those cold winter days. What a hoot!
Coacervate Droplet Thanks for viewing, I grew up in Elmira Heights and I agree it is a nice area to grow up in. Sincerely, Rod Denson
Hey Rod...was that a blue 76 Plymouth volare station wagon approx. 1:45 min in? I use to have one just like that...good old slant 6!
FIRST COMMENT!!! How are you guys, it's me Crash/Superman/Rick...
Now is the time to complete the trifecta and do a movie on Freddie Steinmark.
Hi Rod! I worked at the station from roughly '82 to '84. Jimmy Goodnow brought me in. What a great experience. I remember riding with you to cover the opening of the season at Catherine Creek. Delighted to find this. All the best to you, Pete Louison
Hi Bruce, I remember Bob well, he also did the weather each evening on the 11 o-clock News. He left Channel 18 in the late 60's and joined WNBF later WBNG in Binghamton. His main job there was doing the Weather on their local news. He was there for many years and passed away a few years back. Thanks for watching my video. Sincerely Rod Denson Sr.
In the middle '60's there was a sportscaster there by the name of Bob Buchanan. Any memory of him?
Sony DSC-HX200V Noelle, sorry I took so long to reply, I just noticed your message a few minutes ago. I am very impressed with all of its features. Rod

Hello AlyasPEGS! Thanks for your comment on the Ernie Davis Video! Sorry I don't have an Acura, I have a Chevy Malibu. RODSR would be cool on my license plate here in Elmira, New York. I am often called Rod Sr by friends! Cleveland is a nice area, I went there in the early 1960s to visit my wife's Uncle and Aunt!
Rod Denson Sr p
I Didn't know Brian Williams was from Elmira. My Dad grew up in the Elmira heights and my Grandmother lived there when we would visit as kids. We went to Eldridge park once and I never forgot the excitement of people trying to get that brass ring. I'm glad they brought back the carousel and was saddened when they sold the first one. I'm glad they brought back the brass ring also.
A great football player and person. We lost him too soon. Thanks for posting this.
Great video Rod. I remember all you guys from the WSYE era, and visiting the station in the mid sixties, meeting Phil in the old OLD switching area when there was just a film island. I remember "The End of the River" and "Red Letter Day" when the TK42 arrived. I used to work at TV36 in the 70s, and I would visit my old friend Mark Polovic when I came up to kick our transmitter (often). I often wonder what's left in that old building, apart from memories. Any idea what Larry Taylor is up to?
@1uniqueruby Thanks for watching and your comment!
Ernie will never be forgotten.
Went to Eldridge Park a lot as a kid. Actually got the one and only brass ring of my life on that Carousel.
@gonavybeatarmy87 I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks for viewing. Rod
